The Opportunity

This project was complicated from the start. The owner had a big swimming pool pump area in the basement which was directly in line with the water table. As the water table increased over rainy seasons, the wall would be impregnated with water causing serious damage to the the substrate and his building on basement level. The owner has had many waterproofers in to waterproof the room with no success. They even tried injecting a system but the pressure proved too overwhelming and the past system failed. The solution was to apply our negative waterproofing system to the walls. This involved preparing the substrate and stopping the the weeping with a specialised powder that gets applied to the wall by rubbing it into the substrate. Once the wall dry we could apply a spray on system that arrests the sulphates from being expelled from the substrate due to the high water pressure of the water table. After the arrest of the sulphates two coats of specialised negative waterproofing slurry was applied. This slurry can with stand 13 bar pressure when cured. It is also breathable so it allows the trapped water in the already damaged wall to escape over time in the form of vapour. A world class solution for a tricky situation.
