Projects Showcase 2020/2021
Cape Town Boutique Hotel
The OpportunityThe building had Torch On which had failed and it was compromising the substrate and severely inconveniencing guests. The hotel was earmarked for a degrading. We competed against 4 companies and one the bid. Two of the companies were torch on and polyurethane spray solutions. We were not the cheapest After successful installation, the owners were so impressed they allowed us to waterproof a further 300m2 of leaking box gutter around the building Challenge was getting the rolls to the roof (8 stories) however quickly overcome.
Hout Bay Horse Stables
The OpportunityThese horse stables based in an quaint village on the Coast was leaking and the horses needed protection from the strong UV in South Africa We uses insulation board which was drilled into the purlins and we applied the fully adhered system to the roof. The outcome was crazy successful. Immediately there was at an R factor reduction of 5 -10 degrees. We ended up doing the remaining horse stables
Clairmont Residential Balcony
The current torch on system had failed under the tiles. The owner had this repaired twice in two years having to rip out
We suggested removing tiles, rescreeding and applying EPDM RubberGard™ over the new substrate. We also went
under the doors which very convenient with a 1.14 thick membrane
Commercial / Industrial Box Gutters
The OpportunityThe current spray on rubber system applied by the previous contractor had failed. The gutters were leaking and causing sever interruption of the workforce and damaging equipment. Waterproof Lab was commissioned to find a solution that seal the gutter. It was too expensive to remove the gutters. Our solution was to remove the existing failed waterproofing, re rust proof and chemically apply the 1.14 RubberGard™ EPDM to the gutters with Firestone Bonding Adhesive in 6m lengths and seam the membrane at each join. The project took 4 weeks.
House Bishops Court
System: Negative Waterproofing system
The OpportunityThis project was complicated from the start. The owner had a big swimming pool pump area in the basement which was directly in line with the water table. As the water table increased over rainy seasons, the wall would be impregnated with water causing serious damage to the the substrate and his building on basement level. The owner has had many waterproofers in to waterproof the room with no success. They even tried injecting a system but the pressure proved too overwhelming and the past system failed. The solution was to apply our negative waterproofing system to the walls. This involved preparing the substrate and stopping the the weeping with a specialised powder that gets applied to the wall by rubbing it into the substrate. Once the wall dry we could apply a spray on system that arrests the sulphates from being expelled from the substrate due to the high water pressure of the water table. After the arrest of the sulphates two coats of specialised negative waterproofing slurry was applied. This slurry can with stand 13 bar pressure when cured. It is also breathable so it allows the trapped water in the already damaged wall to escape over time in the form of vapour. A world class solution for a tricky situation. See pictures of damage and final product
Residential Home Full Post Water Damage Restoration
